Project Brief
Point Think Tank is a consortium for the wireless communications industry. In 2010, they contacted me to design identity and promotional graphics for their “Locations and Beyond Summit,” held that year in San Francisco. A goal of Point Think Tank was to illustrate the diverse vehicles of wireless communications in today’s world, while also underscoring the concept of interconnectedness between those same vehicles.
Approach
We had the idea to demonstrate connectedness by alluding to those plastic model car kits that many of us put together as kids. The various types of wireless communications could be illustrated separately and then connected via this plastic grid that so many are familiar with.
The drawings were sketched out then scanned and refined within Adobe Illustrator. In the meantime, I used a drawing board and model car paints as props to set up a photographic background for the artwork to live.
After the photo illustration was created, I pulled elements of it to form the smaller, more adaptable logo.

Outcome
The 2010 “Locations and Beyond Summit” was a success, and I’ve had the privilege to work with this satisfied customer on many subsequent projects .
