DESCRIPTION
Project Brief
Design websites for both Penn State’s historic Nittany Lion Inn and modern Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
The Inn was built in 1931 and has hosted the likes of Presidents Eisenhower and Johnson, Eleanor Roosevelt, Helen Hayes and Louis Armstrong. It has a Colonial country atmosphere, and the website should reflect it’s warm and wonderful character.
The Penn Stater is a modern hotel located on the edge of campus, situated at the entrance of the picturesque Pennsylvania woodlands. The colors and textures located within the hotel reflect it’s beautiful natural surroundings. The website should project the both the beauty and sophistication that this modern hotel has to offer.
Approach
For the Nittany Lion Inn, some Colonial touches of both the interior and exterior of the hotel have been integrated into the site. The floral pattern of the background of the site reflects the style of the wallpaper within the main lobby. The blue and white color scheme makes each guest feel right at home in Penn State’s “Living Room.”
The Penn Stater home page has a contemporary composition, alternating between warm wooden textures and vivid, pleasing photography. The green hues of the website emulate the forest that surrounds the hotel, and if you look closely you can even spot the silhouettes of the trees outside.
Outcome
Both websites see high traffic numbers each day, receive good feedback from guests, and are easy to edit and maintain.
