I created this poster for fun, commemorating the first baseball team I passionately followed in my youth—the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates. Rather than depicting the climax of their World Series win at the season’s end, my goal for the poster was to convey the optimism a fan might have experienced on opening day.
With the iconic “We Are Family” mantra, the team, featuring standout players like Willie Stargell, displayed unity and skill throughout the season. Stargell’s MVP performances in both the regular season and World Series were instrumental. Under the leadership of manager Chuck Tanner, the team showcased a combination of skill and determination that endeared them to fans. The Pirates overcame challenges to defeat the Baltimore Orioles in a thrilling seven-game series, clinching their fifth World Series title and leaving an enduring legacy of camaraderie and success in baseball history.
